How Much Will I Get for My Antique Jewelry?

Whether you're selling jewelry from the Victorian era, the Retro era, or any other time period, you're probably wondering how much you'll get paid. Getting the highest cash value for your jewelry is probably the utmost priority, so skip the other pawn shops and jewelry stores. Instead, if you're in the Hampton Roads area, Greenbrier Pawn should be your first choice! Because of our years experience in the industry and our goal to always keep a large collection of great jewelry in stock for our customers, we'll pay what you deserve!

How much that will be, of course, depends on the specific jewelry that you bring in. When you visit our full service jewelry store, let one of our staff know that you're interested in selling your jewelry. Right then, on the spot, they'll begin the process of valuing your old gold, silver, or platinum jewelry.

Particularly when we purchase antique jewelry, the condition of your jewelry does impact how much you'll get paid. As you can probably imagine, jewelry that is over 100 years old often shows its age. These pieces are still valuable (if only for the value of the scrap gold!), so bring them in, regardless of condition.

As a premier jeweler that always offers helpful and knowledgeable service, you can count on us to pay you top dollar for your antique and vintage jewelry. Just bring it to us for a great experience and an offer. There is never an obligation to accept our offer, and if you decide you don't want to sell right now, you won't owe us a dime. If you're looking for a superior pawn shop that will pay you the most for your antique or vintage jewelry, though, give us a try! We are your Hampton Roads diamond buyer and gold buyer!

What's the Process of Selling Antique Jewelry to Greenbrier Pawn?

When you're ready to sell your authentic antique engagement ring -- or any other antique or vintage piece that you want to sell -- the process is very easy. Bring your Art Deco engagement ring or other vintage or antique style of jewelry to our Chesapeake location. When you're gathering your unwanted jewelry, make sure you grab your ID, too, since you'll need it to sell to us (per state law).

When you bring us your jewelry, we'll take a few minutes to assess it and its value. We'll look at things like whether your jewelry is from the Edwardian era or Art Deco era, whether it's made from yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, or another precious metal, what type of center stones that jewelry has, and more. All of these things impact the value of your jewelry. For example, good-quality jewelry from the Georgian era is incredibly rare and is, therefore, often incredibly valuable.

Of course, condition is not the only thing we look at! Antique jewelry often features valuable stones, including diamonds, pearls, sapphires, emeralds, rubies, and more. Each stone has value based on carat weight, quality, and more. Because we also focus on gold buying here, your piece might have a high worth simply from the precious metals that it's made from.

Once we've determined the value of your jewelry -- which generally only takes a few minutes -- the rest of the process is fast and easy. We'll need to take a look at your ID and document some of your information, in accordance with Virginia state law. We'll write up the paperwork and count out your cash on the spot. It's truly the fastest and easiest way to sell unwanted gold, silver, and platinum jewelry from any era.

What Types of Antique Jewelry Can You Sell?

People around the Chesapeake area know that Greenbrier Pawn is the place to go when selling jewelry, whether you're selling a new ring from a top designer, or an antique ring that is hundreds of years old. In particular, we value the quality of craftsmanship and the unique look of vintage and antique jewelry. We buy all different types of antique jewelry from a range of eras.

The Georgian Era

Jewelry from 1714 to 1837 is considered to be from the Georgian era. This era lasted for more than 120 years and spanned through the reign of four English kings. Jewelry from this time period is incredibly valuable; there simply aren't many high-quality Georgian pieces out there nowadays, and much of what's left can be found in museums or private collections. There is a very limited selection of this jewelry available in today's world.

Georgian era jewelry was made from either silver or yellow gold. Rubies, sapphires, pearls, and foil-backed diamonds are some of the gemstones that are commonly found in jewelry from this time period.

The Victorian Era

Named for Queen Victoria of England, who reigned during the 1800s, the Victorian era refers to jewelry made from 1837 to 1901. Queen Victoria was quite fond of jewelry herself, and was actually responsible for big changes to jewelry designs throughout her reign. Although these pieces are very old, Victorian era jewelry is much easier to find, even today. However, it's still quite valuable.

There are actually three stages of the Victorian era: the Romantic Victorian era, the Grand Victorian era, and the Aesthetic Victorian era. Jewelry from each stage of the era is of a different style. However, throughout the era, gold and silver jewelry were still most popular. Amethyst, rubies, turquoise, sapphires, and other colorful gemstones were a popular choice during this era, as were pearls and diamonds.

Edwardian Era

The Edwardian era was much shorter than the previous eras, spanning from 1901 to 1915. Gold jewelry was no longer the standard during this era, as other precious metals were explored. In particular, platinum became popular. Pearls and diamonds were still considered to be top choices in a perfect piece of jewelry from this time period. Filigree and milgrain metalworking became popular, and many pieces were intricate and ornate.

Art Nouveau Era

Quite rare and high in true value nowadays, Art Nouveau jewelry hails from 1890 to 1910. Even though there was some overlap with the Edwardian era, you can easily tell the difference between jewelry from the two eras. Jewelry from the Art Nouveau era is more of an organic, free form style. Many pieces featured dragonflies and butterflies. Enamel was often added to add color and light.

Art Deco Era

Emerging after World War I, the Art Deco era ranged from 1920 to 1945. Platinum was a very popular precious metal for jewelry during this time. Suddenly, geometric and angular looks became incredibly popular. Much of the jewelry from this time is quite bold. Diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires were some of the most popular gemstones found in fine jewelry from this era.

Retro Era

The Retro era marked the time when World War II ended, and this is reflected in the style of the jewelry from this time. With notes taken from the previous Art Deco era, jewelry from this time was big and bold. Platinum was still popular, but since the war ended, yellow gold was less scarce and became popular again. White gold also started to become popular, although it wasn't as popular as yellow gold or platinum. In many pieces, gemstones were big, colorful, and bold.

If you have jewelry from any of these time periods, we'd love to take a look at it! Greenbrier Pawn is known as one of the best places to sell pretty much any jewelry that you want to get rid of, from antique jewelry to newer diamond engagement rings. If you want to get the best price while enjoying excellent customer service, there is truly no reason to go anywhere else.

Why is Greenbrier Pawn Shop & Jewelry Different?

Lots of pawn shops buy and sell diamonds and jewelry. However, few really specialize in jewelry like we do here at Greenbrier Pawn Shop. In fact, when you walk into our shop, you will probably notice that resembles a high-end jewelry shop more than it does a traditional pawn shop. Even though we offer all of the same services that other pawn shops offer, many of our customers see us as more of a jewelry store. Once you stop in and check out our selection once, you’re sure to find that we’re your new favorite go-to Jewelry Store.
